I have over 30 years’ experience as a class music teacher and teacher of piano and violin. I run my private practice from home for people of all ages and stages, as well as currently teaching violin at Queens College Taunton. As an experienced performer of classical, folk and jazz, I am able to offer a flexible and fun approach to the individual needs of my pupils. I use a wide variety of repertoire to suit the needs of my pupils.
I do exams as and when pupils are ready/willing to do them with support from parents. Currently I favour Trinity Guildhall exams due to a preference for their aural tests and scales. If we cannot find suitable pieces, I look at ABRSM as an alternative. Both are well respected and recognised at the higher levels (grade 6 upwards) as points by UCAS for applications to university.
Music is essentially a social activity and I encourage my pupils to engage in groups in or outside of school as much as possible. I have extensive experience in performing classical, folk and jazz so I know the importance of playing for fun with others and the training it gives you as a musician.
Violins come in a wide variety of sizes from 1/8 to full size, which can be hired on a termly basis locally from James Powell Violins in Norton Fitzwarren. He can advise on the correct size. He also sells and repairs stringed instruments.
If you are interested in lessons, a trial lesson can be organised with me, with no obligation.
