What is music therapy?

Music therapy is unique in that no words are needed to participate fully and it can be accessed by people with no musical experience.  I work with individuals or small groups using many different techniques, such as improvising with a range of different instruments, moving with music or singing. I can help people create their own story through song-writing, or using personally meaningful music to help regain their sense of identity.

Music therapy can;

  • enable a nonverbal child to find new ways to communicate
  • allow people who have had a stroke to communicate through singing
  • calm people with dementia by remembering songs of meaning from their past
  • help those with brain injury by activating a different part of their brain
